The term “Akar Bahar” is a linguistic blend of the Malay word “akar” (meaning root) and the Arabic word “bahar” (بحر, meaning sea). Literally translated as “Root of the Sea,” this name reflects the historic trade and cultural exchanges across the Indonesian archipelago. Regionally, it is also referred to by various localized names, such as “ruhu” or “luhu” in the Moluccas (Maluku) and “gelang uli” in Bali.

Ariasa Putra preserves a multi-decadal family heritage in Muntok, West Bangka, transforming marine black coral (akar bahar) into exquisite wearable art. Established by his family since 1988, the craft carries a deep philosophy highlighting the symbiotic relationship between coastal communities, the ocean, and natural preservation. He maintains traditional hand-tooling techniques passed down through generations to ensure each piece remains authentic and unique.

Under his skilled hands, this raw marine material is meticulously fashioned into a diverse range of artistic creations. His signature collection features wearable jewelry, including bespoke bracelets (gelang), finely detailed rings, and elegant necklaces. Beyond personal adornments, the workshop also produces high-value collectible artifacts, such as ceremonial command sticks (tongkat komando), custom smoking pipes, and traditional prayer beads (tasbih). Each masterpiece uniquely follows the natural contours of the coral, ensuring that every finished piece is entirely one of a kind.
